Actor and martial artist Michael Jai White is back in familiar territory with a new action film opening in theaters later this week. The movie and television star appeared on the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” Tuesday morning to talk about “Falcon Rising” which lands in theaters later this week as well as his love for the genre.
“I enjoy doing those movies, like “Blood and Bone”, “Black Dynamite" where I can do the action.” Action is worldwide.“
In “Falcon Rising” White plays John ‘Falcon’ Chapman an ex-marine out to avenge his sister’s brutal attack in Brazil. The versatile actor revealed in the interiew that he does his own stunts. He was also asked about how he prepares for such physically demanding roles.
“If you stay ready you don’t have to get ready. That‘s what I do…I’m blessed to be in a situation where I’m doing what I like to do. I do martial arts anyway…this is something that’s apart of my life. I’m having a lot of fun when I’m doing action movies. It’s a pleasure.”
He further added it’s a bonus to play a character that’s familiar to him.
“It’s a luxury to play something that’s closer to who you are, who’s just a real person. You get to use all your tools.“
White has starred in a varity of movies and on television throughout his long career. His credits include the 1997 film “Spawn”, 2001’s “Exit Wounds”, Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married?” and the sequel “Why Did I Get Married Too?” from 2007 and 2010 respectively as well as the 2009 action-comedy “Black Dynamite” in which he also co-wrote. He can be currently seen in Perry’s television comedy series “For Better or Worse” on OWN as Marcus his character from the “Why Did I Get Married?” movies.
