The news that Michael Douglas will undergo radiation and chemotherapy for a newly discovered throat tumor comes just weeks before his upcoming film "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" is released. The 65-year-old Academy Award winning actor released a statement about his throat cancer diagnosis saying, "I am very optimistic."

Ex-smoker Douglas will have two months of treatment to treat the cancer. E! Online reports: There is no word whether the lump in his throat is benign or malignant, but doctors have given Douglas an excellent prognosis and expect he'll make a full recovery.

CBS News: Douglas is likely to make a full recovery, says Dr. Robert Haddad, an oncologist at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston who is not involved in Douglas's care ... But he says the cancer is probably in a relatively advanced state ... Douglas has a difficult journey ahead. During the two months of treatment, he may have to be fed through a tube, as swallowing will be difficult.

Michael Douglas married actress Catherine Zeta-Jones on November 18, 2000. Both share a birthday 25 years apart --September 25. They have two children, Dylan Michael (born August 8, 2000) and Carys Zeta (born April 20, 2003).

Twitter buzzed this morning with good wishes for Michael Douglas:
