Actor Lee Thompson Young died on Mon., Aug. 19, 2013 of an apparent suicide, according to news reports. Due to the sudden death, the production on the TNT series "Rizzoli & Isles" has been suspended, according to a report on The Wrap.
Police were sent to Young's apartment to check on him after he did not report to work on the television series on Monday morning. Young was found dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound in what is being called suicide.
Young's manager Jonathan Baruch issued a statement confirming his death on Monday. Baruch said, "It is with great sadness that I announce that Lee Thompson Young tragically took his own life this morning. Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly missed. We ask that you please respect the privacy of his family and friends at this very difficult time."
Young, 29, was in the cast of "Rizzoli & Isles," playing Boston Police Det. Barry Frost, partner to Det. Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon). "Rizzoli & Isles" is a police drama starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander. TNT had announced that the series was being renewed for its fifth season on Friday, Aug. 15. "Rizzoli & Isles" is currently in its fourth season on TNT. New episodes air on Tuesday evenings on TNT. New episodes will air until Sept. 10 and take a hiatus until spring of 2014, when the fourth season will resume. That means that there are still a few episodes including Young yet to air.
TNT, Warner Bros. and "Rizzoli & Isles" issued a joint statement though producer Janet Tamaro, stating:
"Everyone at Rizzoli & Isles is devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and off-screen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family, to his friends and, most especially, to his beloved mother."
E! Entertainment News listed Young's most memorable roles, including the Disney classic "The Famous Jett Jetson," "Smallville," "Rizzoli & Isles," "Scrubs," the movie "Friday Night Lights" and "Flash Forward."
