Actor Josh Brolin arrested on public intoxication charges (Photos)

Actor Josh Brolin is preparing for his film "Gangster Squad" to hit theaters soon, but he was arrested on Wednesday, Jan.2, 2013, after police found him heavily intoxicated. His mugshot hit the net on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, and shows Brolin staring into the camera after cops took him in for public intoxication and unable to care for himself on a Santa Monica sidewalk.

Brolin was contacted by police around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday night as he was in the 1600 block of Ocean Avenue. He was then booked into custody around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Brolin was held in custody on a misdemeanor public intoxication charge and then released by the police per Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis.

"This was a booking only to hold him until he sobered up," Lewis said. "We do not normally file any charges on persons for simple intoxication."

Police said they wouldn't book someone on a more serious charge and request prosecution if that person became a "chronic drain on resources." Well, that or if they have previous arrests, but Brolin was let free.

"In this case," Lewis said, "no further action is being sought."
