Actor James Franco says he’s not offended by gay rumors

Actor James Franco has played some interesting characters so far in his career. He has not been afraid to tackle roles that explore his versatility as an actor. The 34-year-old has not only played gay characters onscreen, he has also played a character on ABC’s longest running soap “General Hospital” that most viewers considered a bit homoerotic as Franco’s character obsessed over former GH star Steve Burton’s character Jason Morgan. The gay roles he has played in films like “Milk”, “Blind Spot” and “Howl” as well as a recent film he directed released at this year’s Sundance Film Festival called “Interior. Leather Bar” has stirred up rumors again about Franco’s sexuality. In an interview published on Tuesday by MTV.com, the actor laughed off rumors and admitted he had to deal with rumors about his sexuality as far back as high school.

“In high school these girls got mad at me and so they spread this rumor that I was having a gay relationship with one of my closest friends. And they even made up a little dance they would do in the girl’s locker room about me being gay. I still don’t know what the dance was.”

Franco said the recent rumors about his sexuality doesn’t offend him and doesn’t care if fans think he is gay or straight. The one thing that is sure about the actor is that he is not afraid to take on controversial projects. Currently Franco is promoting a documentary he produced about the world’s largest producer of BDSM pornography titled “Kink” and also continues to promote “Interior. Leather Bar” which is based off the 1980 gay culture film “Cruising”.

Although Franco is linked romantically to actress Ashley Benson, the rumors and gossip will continue to fly about his sexuality but Franco emphasizes that he is not offended by the speculation. It seems like the actor enjoys being a man of mystery and intrigue, qualities that have brought out interesting aspects of the characters he has played.
