Actor Isaiah Washington who’s been a force on the indie movie scene is returning to his old television home. The film and television star will don the scrubs again for an appearance on “Grey’s Anatomy” according to The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.

Washington will reprise his role as the popular character Dr. Preston Burke for one episode on the medical drama. Showrunner Shonda Rhimes says Washinton’s return will help close the storyline involving departing actress Sandra Oh whose character Dr. Christina Yang was once involved with Burke.
Since his controversial exit from “Grey’s Anatomy” Washington has found work in independent movies. He starred in the critically acclaimed 2013 film “Blue Caprice” for which he was nominated for a Gotham Award. Washington also stars in “Blackbird” with Oscar winner Mo’Nique from director Patrik-Ian Polk, helmer John Sayles' “Go For Sisters”, Russ Parr's “The Undershepherd” and will be seen in director Matthew A. Cherry’s sports drama about concussions “Game Time Decision”.
