Actor Forest Whitaker is having a banner year professionally. In addition to starring in the hit movie ”Lee Daniels’ The Butler”, producing one of the most buzzed about indie films of the year in “Fruitvale Station” and starring in the soon-to-be-released musical “Black Navity”, the Oscar winner is in line for yet another honor. Whitaker will be the recipient of the 23rd annual Gotham Awards’ actor tribute according to a published report at Variety on Thursday, Oct. 3.
The accolade recognizes Whitaker for his cinematic and humanitarian contributions. He and his fellow honorees will be celebrated at a ceremony in New York Dec 2. Whitaker is the latest star to receive the actor tribute honor. Matt Damon, Charlize Theron and Natalie Portman are among Gotham's past recipients. The 2013 Gotham Awards will announce the nominees for best indie feature, actress, actor and documentary later this month.
“The Last King of Scotland” star will be seen next in the Kasi Lemmons-directed musical drama “Black Navity” with Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, Tyrese Gibson and Mary J. Blige on Nov. 27.
