Dennis Hopper recites Rudyard Kipling's poem "If", Rolling Thunder Revue, Warehouse, New Orleans, LA, May 3rd, 1976, evening show.
Legendary actor and director Dennis Hopper is reported to have died today in Venice, California. His screen credits include Rebel Without A Cause, Cool Hand Luke, Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now, Neil Young's Human Highway, and Blue Velvet.
Hopper has been called a friend of Bob Dylan's. In the movie Catchfire (a.k.a. Backtrack), Dylan had a cameo as an artist using a chainsaw.
The theme from Easy Rider was written by Roger McGuinn and Dylan (uncredited). Dylan contributed a cover of "People Get Ready" to Hopper's film Flashback.
Here's a quote from Hopper in his Washington Post obituary:
"Dylan didn't want us to die at the end.He was really upset about Wyatt and Billy being killed and suggested this outrageous ending (for 'Easy Rider'). He said, 'You know the helicopter at the end? Why don't you have the helicopter swoop back down and shoot those rednecks in the truck?' Dylan wanted the good guys to win."
