Actor Christopher McDonald was arrested in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Oct. 16, 2013, after being pulled over by North Carolina Highway Patrol officers.
Christopher McDonald, age 58, is best known for his role as Shooter McGavin in the film, “Happy Gilmore”. McDonald has an extensive resume, in the film industry. This examiner remembers him best in his role as Thelma’s husband, Darryl, in the film “Thelma & Louise”. He is married to actress Lupe Gildey and has four children.
McDonald was in Wilmington to film the movie, “The Squeeze”. “The Squeeze” is being directed by Terry Jastrow.
Wilmington, North Carolina, affectionately called “Wilmywood” by some, seems to be a common landing ground for filming, similar to Atlanta, Georgia being called “The New Hollywood”. According to Wilmywood Daily, a local Wilmington publication about local film industry happenings, McDonald arrived in Wilmington on Oct. 14, 2013. Locals recognized him and he graciously conceded to fulfill a star’s role of taking photos and signing autographs.
It seems like it didn’t take long for trouble to find him. On the early morning of Oct. 16, 2013, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Christopher McDonald was arrested by North Carolina Highway Patrol, with a reportedly alcohol level that was .15, which is twice the legal limit.
Christopher McDonald was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI).
Maybe Wilmington has been a little too welcoming to McDonald.
According to the New Hanover Sherriff’s Department, McDonald was detained at the New Hanover County Detention Facility, in Castle Hayne, North Carolina. He was shortly thereafter released on $1,000 bond, on Oct. 16, 2013.
