Many in the world of daytime drama are very well aware of who actor Brian Gaskill is and what he has done but even they don’t know of all the creative endeavors Brian has been involved in and continues to be involved in.
Just recently it has come to light that Brian directed, produced and even did all the camera and editing work on the music video of Georgette Jones song, "You and Me and Time." Georgette is the daughter of country icons George Jones and Tammy Wynette. This is the only country music video that Georgette and George ever did together and it is heartwarming, tender and lovely. I spoke to Brian about his experience with working with George and Georgette and this is what he had to say.
Q Brian, you got to work with George and Georgette, what was that like?
A It was great being on the estate.
Q Are you aware of all the plays the video is getting?
A I have no idea.
Q How were you involved in that video?
A I directed it and shot it by myself; I was a crew of one.
A Every single music video I have done I have done by myself. I come up with the concept, I hold the camera, I shoot it and I edit it all by myself. I normally have no crew.
Q That’s very cool. You see now I did not know that.
A It’s all guerrilla style. That is why it is a little rough around the edges but that is what I like. I definitely have a much more independent edge to what I do.
Q Right, because you think outside the box?
A Yeah and I like the rough stuff. I like the hand held. Where we went with the Georgette video and the locations, I chose them and where we went to the record store where she was doing the performance.
Q Was that Ernest Tubbs?
A Yeah, yeah in the back of Ernest Tubbs and I was coaching her, I was basically acting coach.
Q So you really do it all, storyline, concept, filming, acting coach, wow.
A People were like how did you get her to cry? I was teaching her and then working with George was amazing. Like the best memory of him, I was just thinking about this the other day actually. The day we shot this his wife, in order to get him in a good agreeable mood, his wife brought him to go get an ice cream cone. They left the estate and went and got him an ice cream cone and came back and he was sweet the rest of the day.
A We had a good time and he was really cool and it was really amazing being on the estate and going down in the basement and seeing all the old memorabilia and stuff. Just being a part of that legacy and also having Keith Bilbrey who was the announcer on the Grand Ole Opry for the radio show who announces her in the beginning of the music video was cool too.
Q The shots that were taken with George and Georgette in the video, they actually were together?
Q Sometimes videos are shot with people not being at the same place at the same time and put together to look like they were together later in editing.
A For the most part it is everything of them together.
Q I am glad that she has that now. I am glad that she has that as a keepsake forever.
A It’s sweet.
Q It is a great music video. I really enjoy it and I have watched it several times. Are you planning on producing anymore music videos in Nashville or anywhere else?
A I am always open to doing new projects.
Q I understand that you are going to do a Kickstarter for a film project you have written and are co-directing?
A Yes, that should be launched this coming week.
Q I have also been told that you wrote a song about Elvis during your time living in Nashville?
A Yes, I co-wrote it with Dean Madonia and Dean Madonia performs it.
Q I listened to it. It is very good. I will put the link to it up at end of this interview. I want to thank you for taking the time to talk to me. I really appreciate it.
A Well, you are very welcome and thank you for the interview.
With that we said our goodbyes. I have embedded the music video of George and Georgette Jones here in this article. I know I would love to see Brian do more songwriting and music video producing in Nashville, how about you?
