Low pressure over the upper Great Lakes will send a cold front toward the Capital Region and vicinity later today and this evening. This front looks to pass through the region quickly, and with little fanfare, outside of a cloud increase, and perhaps a widely scattered shower to the north and west of the area. Chilly air is poised to infiltrate the region behind this frontal system for the end of the weekend, with brisk northwest winds on Sunday.
Sunday will feature a mix of sun and clouds across the region, with perhaps a bit more in the way of cloud cover by the afternoon. As the chilly northwest breezes blow over a wide expanse of Lake Ontario, some lake effect cloud cover and precipitation may visit portions of the Mohawk Valley, Adirondacks, and areas closer to the lee of the eastern most Great Lake.
The upper level flow pattern remains fast and energetic through the next several days over the region. In addition, a trough of low pressure develops over the region in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere. These two factors will combine to make the forecast rather repetitive. A prolonged period of partly sunny to mostly cloudy conditions, with sporadic showers, and brisk breezes will be commonplace through the bulk of the coming work week. Temperatures will also trend toward below normal levels, making it feel like autumn, as opposed to the warmth experienced earlier this month.
