David Stephen Caruso is an American film and television actor and producer. He is  known to audiences for his role as Lieutenant Horatio Caine on the TV series CSI: Miami.

If you`re not willing to risk, there are no rewards." - Caruso

CSI: Miami (Crime Scene Investigation: Miami) is a spin-off of the CBS network series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The series is an American crime drama television series that trails the investigations of a team of Miami-Dade forensic scientists as they unveil the circumstances behind mysterious and unusual deaths and other crimes.

CSI: Miami is the only show in the CSI franchise to have crossed over with both CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: NY with Gary Sinise, but is the only one out of the three which has yet to crossover with a series outside of the franchise. CSI: Miami has crossed over with CSI: NY on more than one occasion.

The show is now in syndication and reruns are currently broadcast in the United States on A&E in high definition. On May 14, 2008, CBS renewed the show for a seventh season, which started airing September 22, 2008 and the season finale for May 18, 2009.

CSI: Miami is filmed primarily in the United States. Location shots are filmed in the South Florida/Miami-Dade area, while indoor scenes are shot at Raleigh Manhattan Studios in Manhattan Beach, California, CA.

Some outdoor scenes are filmed mostly in Long Beach, California, as well as portions of Manhattan Beach including a variety of beach areas of Downtown Long Beach.  And the building that's used in exterior shots of the MDPD crime lab is actually the Federal Aviation Administration Federal Credit Union headquarters.

Caruso's first film appearance was in the 1980 film Getting Wasted, in which he played the part of Danny. Caruso then spent most of the next decade in supporting roles, appearing in such films as First Blood, also known as Rambo: First Blood, An Officer and a Gentleman, Blue City, Thief of Hearts, and China Girl. Caruso also appeared in Twins and Hudson Hawk (1991).

In television he had a recurring role as Tommy Mann, the gang leader of "The Shamrocks", on Hill Street Blues in the early 1980s. He also had a two-episode appearance on the television series Crime Story, which ran from 1986 to 1988 on NBC.

Television, as you know, can kind of jettison you into a whole new world."  - David Caruso

Caruso's first significant role was in 1993 as Detective John Kelly on the series NYPD Blue. (TV Guide listed him as one of the six new stars to watch in the '93-'94 season and he received award nominations for his work.) He made news by leaving the highly rated show the following year (only four episodes into the second season) to pursue a career in film, but he was unable to establish himself as a leading-man despite starring in the crime thrillers Kiss of Death (which was critically well-received but did not perform well financially). He also appeared in Jade (1995) (which was panned and flopped outright).

In 1997, Caruso returned to television as the star of the short-lived CBS law drama series Michael Hayes, in which he played a Big Apple-based federal prosecutor.

In 2000 Caruso returned to film with a supporting role as Russell Crowe's mercenary associate in the movie Proof of Life.

Again, back to television, since 2002, he has starred as Lt. Horatio Caine in the popular CSI spin-off series CSI: Miami. On CSI: Miami, Caruso is known for frequently using one-liners, many of which include him putting on his sunglasses in mid-sentence.   But David, watch out for those fans!

I went from a guy, kind of a working actor, a supporting player, to magazine covers and being offered the studio pictures really quickly. Nobody was comfortable with it. I wasn't really comfortable with it. - David Caruso
