Russell Ira Crowe, an Australian actor and musician, was born to parents whom were both movie set caterers. His maternal grandfather, Stan Wemyss, was a cinematographer.

Early on Crowe was on a movie set, as he was hired, at the age of five or six, to read one line of dialog, opposite the Spyforce series star Jack Thompson.

As a teen he was moved back to his birth land of New Zealand to attend high school, but left school, at 16, to pursue his dream of being either a musician or an actor.

In 1986 Crowe had his first professional acting role as Eddie/Dr. Scott in the production of The Rocky Horror Show.  He worked in other productions until at 21 he moved back to Australia with the intention of applying to the National Institute of Dramatic Art, but was talked out of it.

Instead, in 1990, he began to appear on a variety of TV shows and films, some of which were Neighbors, The Crossing, Blood Oath,  Police Rescue, Romper Stomper...

By 1995 Crowe began appearing in American films - Vituosity, Gladiator, The Insider; Mystery, Alaska; Body of Lies, State of Play...and Robin Hood (2010).

Russell Crowe:

The important thing to me is that I'm not driven by people's praise and I'm not slowed down by people's criticism. I'm just trying to work at the highest level I can.” - Russell Crowe (Photo/wiki)

Former athletes, musicians or just "plain" talent who have turned to acting: Quinton Rampage Jackson, Sienna Miller, Shia LaBeouf, Danny Glover, John Schneider as Bo Duke, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Gary Sinise, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Christian Bale...
