Acting Magazine and its authors give many helpful tips on acting. Constantin Stanislovski didn't do such a shabby job of giving acting advice either.
According to Rachel Vaater:
There is a guideline to follow
when creating one's acting resume."
One should limit it to one page, fit the back side of your 8x10 headshot, name, union affiliations, contact info and stats should be at the top, credits listed by categories organized under such experiences as singing, acting, dancing, etc., do not include extra work, but do include education, and list other skills as well. Don't forget to mention if you have a passport, can drive stick shift and anything else pertinent to getting a gig.
Amy Shulz lists her ideas of acting do's and don'ts. Do student, experimental, low-budget and independent films, including community theater. Acting is doing. Do go for a variety of roles - stretch yourself as an actor. Do get a computer creating letters, updating resume, editing photos and looking for work. Do have your own acting website and look for acting jobs every day. Do have a vareity of monologues ready for use at all times. Do carry headshots/resumes with you at all times. Do take acting workshops/classes whenever you can.
Constantin Stanislavski always thought of his system as if it were a table of contents for a large book which dealt with all aspects of acting. His final work, known as The Method of Physical Actions, is in no way a rejection of his early interest in sense and affective memory. He found that there were other ways of accessing emotion, among them the belief in given circumstances - the exercise of the imagination and the use of physical action.
A few of the actors who have employed Stanislavski's System in some form are Sidney Poitier, Gregory Peck, Kevin Spacey, Denzel Washington, Elizabeth Taylor, Hilary Swank...
Sir John Gielgud said, about Stanislavski,
This director found time to explain a thousand things that have always troubled actors and fascinated students."
Stanislavski's goal was to find a universally applicable approach that could be of service to all actors. He said of his own System, "Create your own method. Don't depend slavishly on mine. Make up something that will work for you! But keep breaking traditions, I beg you."
