Act now to expand Chesapeake's Hiking and Biking Trail Network

One thing cyclists and hikers should resolve for are more safe places to ride and hike on globally in 2012.  More places to experience one of our greatest inventions.  More places for a cross country run.  More places to get away from the mundane, the stress, the rat race.  More places to inhale Mother Earth’s space.  Another place to liberate.

The Southside of Hampton Roads could certainly use more safe, maintained off road trails.  Kids need a safe place to experience the joy of riding a bike and the freedom it facilitates. If you agree, you can act now as one of your first resolutions of 2012.

Mike Buff, the representative of the Southside Chapter of the Eastern Virginia Mountainbike Association, EVMA, is heading up a petition to expand trails within the Chesapeake Parks and Recreation Department.

Over the past three years, Mike and his group have been maintaining the Indian River Park trail network, aka Ipswich.  If you have ever biked there before they accepted responsibility of said maintenance,  you will notice a surprising difference in the maintenance of  the trails and general safety of the area.

With their goal to create more family friendly trail networks for hiking and biking within the parks and recreation system, Mike’s group is anxious to expand their efforts hopefully this spring.  So please take a moment to make our area a better place to live and sign the linked petitionThey currently have over 280 signatures.

If you are a cycling or hiking advocate and wish to make a difference in the positive expansion of nature, please take a brief moment to sign the petition as well.  You are encouraged to share with your friends virtually to increase awareness.  Thanks in advance for your participation.

Hampton Roads is a popular vacation destination to the world known for its outdoor experience.  You can be a direct contributor to the trail network expansion without having to leave the information highway in a matter of moments.
