Acrobats add to summer fun at the Sol & Luna Lodge and Spa in Peru

If the ancient Inca people who built the nearby city of Machu Picchu could see what’s going on at the Sol & Luna Lodge and Spa in Urubamba, Peru, there’s little doubt that their jaws would drop in amazement. The same can be said for anyone else who happens to visit the five star property this summer; besides enjoying a plush and relaxing stay in a most sacred and beautiful part of Peru, lodgers at Sol & Luna will be treated to a dazzling acrobatic show put on by former members of the vaunted Cirque du Soleil troupe.

There are certain things you would expect from Sol & Luna, knowing that the resort has been awarded a five star rating. So the colorful murals and Peruvian art found throughout the complex and in each casita comes as no surprise. The delicacies whipped up by chef Nacho Selis in the Kila Wasi restaurant live up to all expectations. The treatments at the Yacu Wasi spa are as heavenly as imagined. But completely unexpected are the acrobats!

Most visitors to Urubamba come because they are on their way to see Machu Picchu, a place only an hour and a half away via the luxurious Inca Rail service that can be boarded about 30-minutes away from Sol & Luna. It is a wonderful bonus to be able to see the show put on by four former Cirque du Soleil members as they perform on trapeze and ropes to a synchronized light and music show while the sun sets on the scenic Urubamba Valley in the background. The troupe changes their routine on a regular basis so those who stay awhile will see more than one show, and since the acrobats live on property, guests will also have a chance to talk with the performers one-on-one.

Guests at Sol & Luna can also indulge in horseback riding, hang gliding and hiking, and for those who would like to interact with locals there are various volunteer opportunities offered through the resort’s non-profit Sol y Luna Foundation.
