Acoustic Syndicate is a rock/folk/bluegrass/Americana band from North Carolina formed in 1992. Their sound is characterized by a three-part vocal harmony, blazing guitar picking, complex poly-rhythmic banjo playing, backed by a rock-steady rhythm section. Lyrically, the group often discusses themes relating to subsistence, sustainability, and quality of life.
Acoustic Syndicate has spent almost twenty years on the road, playing at the original Bonnaroo, MerleFest, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Memphis in May, and many other clubs, festivals, and events. The band is currently comprised of Steve ‘Big Daddy’ McMurry (Acoustic Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals), Jay Sanders (Acoustic and Electric Bass, N/S Stick), Bryon McMurry (Acoustic and Electric Banjo, 6-String Banjo, Vocals), Fitz McMurry (Drum Set, Congas, Percussion), and Billy Cardine (Dobro and Electric Resophonic Guitar).
Sons of Bill is comprised of brothers James (Guitar/Vocals), Sam (Guitar/Vocals), and Abe Wilson (Organ/Piano/Banjo/Vocals), as well as Seth Green (Bass) and Todd Wellons (Drums). The three brothers are indeed the sons of Bill; Bill Wilson from Central Virginia is a professor of philosophical theology, a songwriter, an expert on southern literature, and a father of six. His three eldest sons returned to Virginia to start a rock band in 2006 with long-time musical pals Seth Green and Todd Wellons. As a tribute to the man who taught them how to play guitar, write songs, drive a stick-shift, and back up a trailer, the band decided to name themselves Sons of Bill.
With the financial support of 524 fans, Sons of Bill was able to create its third album, Sirens, which will be released on March 27th 2012. In March 2011, the band initiated a fan-funded campaign through the innovative website Kickstarter to help offset recording and production costs. The campaign was a tremendous success, hitting its $20,000 goal in just over 24 hours and eventually doubling that goal in the month it was active. This album is truly a labor of love and is sure to be well worth the wait. A free download of the song “Santa Ana Winds” is available for free download on their Facebook page. Get the album and learn the songs, so you will be prepared to celebrate its release and sing along at the show!
