Acoustic start at the Back Page (Photos)

Lowell Bank’s Night scene, this week hosted by the beloved JoeG standing in for D-Tension, held at The Back Page in Lowell featured Nemes and Dressed for the Occasion. This pair of bands play together often and switch up the evening’s opening act. For the Friday night’s show this week, after getting through a couple of audio difficulties, Nemes kicked it off in acoustic fashion.

The change from the obvious high energy band was incredibly moving. The energy that is generally pumping on the stage was channeled and focused to provide an emotionally moving experience. As their set progress it seemed more difficult for this quartet to contain themselves. Approaching the end of the opening set the impression on patrons was becoming increasingly obvious. Their performance of a slowed down version of their hit “Blues” captivated everyone’s attention.

Dressed for the Occasion followed Nemes with a fantastic set. DFTO wasn’t going to let an instrumentation issue stand in the way of knocking out some fantastic tunes to the packed Back Page. Midnight Sky, a signature tune by DFTO, was performed with the Cajun as the percussion instrument and it still sounded fantastic . Before the end of their first set the instrumentation problem was resolved and they closed out fully charged.

How performers overcome obstacles and handle situations that are less than ideal is a tell tale sign of their level of professionalism. Nemes was able to easily overcome the audio problems, and Dressed for the Occasion had no problem overcoming instrumentation difficulties. Both bands handled themselves with grace under pressure in order to overcome adversity and still provide solid performances.

Next stop for Nemes is Bray’s in Naples, ME on January 19th. Dressed for the Occasion will be performing at a fundraiser for Diabetes at the Eagles Club in Concord, NH today (January 12th).
