Bethany Storro, the 28-year-old Vancouver woman attacked on August 30th when a random stranger threw an acid-like substance in her face, will no longer appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show next week, as had been announced earlier this week.
A message posted yesterday on Storro's Facebook page reads:
So... things have changed. AND IT'S OKAY. Sometimes there is a reason (most of the time there is)... I was going to be on Oprah, but not going to happen! From the very beginning I wanted to inspire people (hope I have) and tell them about Jesus. The show was going to possibly turn into another direction, so my family and I decided not to go on. I hope you understand and will still check in on me :)
Speculation about the validity of Storro's story hit the Internet this week, with some people claiming she injured herself on purpose, and then blamed the attack on an African-American homeless woman.
No major news outlets have run with the surprising story angle, and Storro's Facebook page addressed the controversy yesterday:
I just want everyone to know how thankful I am for the support and concern, and mostly prayers. We are not going to comment on the recent article or statements made. And dear friends, you don't have to defend me. It's ok. The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want... read Psalm 23. I want to bring joy, faith, and hope... that's it! :)

Employees at Anytime Fitness at Esther Short Park will hold a women’s self-defense seminar and fundraiser for Storro tonight from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 710 Esther St. in downtown Vancouver.

It's always alcohol and drugs…alcohol and drugs. There is a show called "Issues" on Headline news channel that is hosted by a recovering alcoholic. She will have a special show on this tonight. They will have some people on that are close to the story. Of course it's alcohol!

This woman is no christian, she needs to be delivered, she's demon posessed. She has a lying spirit, self mutilation demon, need for attention, deceitful, and she's a racist. Lady you need salvation, and I thank God that you were uncovered before you brought a reproach on the Lord on the Oprah Winfrey show. The bible talks about people like you who invent evil things.
