ACF Fiorentina defeated Bologna FC in round 35 of the Italian soccer league, Serie A, on Saturday morning. The final score ended with landslide result of 3-0 in favor of the Viola, nickname for Fiorentina meaning the Purple.
As reported by ESPN Deportes on Saturday, the match between Bologna and the Viola was played at Stadio Renato Dell’Ara, Bologna’s home field. According to the stats, the home team took more shots than the visitors. However, the match was still lost to the visitors.
Fiorentina’s goals were made by Colombian midfielder Juan Quadrado in the 23rd and 87th, and by Slovenian midfielder Josep Ilicic in the 34th. Quadrado is the second highest scorer for the Viola.
As reported, Bologna had 16 shots over 14 shots by the Purple machine. However, none of the shots for Bologna went into the net. As far as ball control, the majority was done by Fiorentina, 64% to Bologna’s 37%.
ACF Fiorentina is currently in fourth place of the Serie A table. The Viola is only eight points away from third place, which is held by Napoli.
In fourth place, Fiorentina qualifies for next year’s UEFA Europa League tournament. However, the Viola is trying to catch up to third place in hopes to have a chance to play a preliminary qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League tournament. The UEFA Champions League is known to be more prestigious than the Europa League.
In order for Fiorentina to get to third place of the Serie A table, the team has to win all three remaining matches left to the tournament. Also, Napoli has to lose at least one of their last three games.
Anyway, the next match, round 36, for ACF Fiorentina is going to be against 17th-place Sassuolo on May 6. Ironically, on May 3, Fiorentina is going to face Napoli for the Coppa Italia Final.
