The Reno Aces collected 11 hits but were only able to score twice Friday night in an 11-2 loss to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on the road.
The Aces and Sky Sox, who will meet again on Saturday at 12:35 p.m., are both 1-1.
The Aces tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the third inning. Ed Easley. who had four hits, singled, was sacrificed to second by pitcher Chase Anderson and went to third on a wild pitch by Tyler Chatwood. Easley then scored on a single by Chris Owings.
Colorado Springs, though, took a 3-2 lead with a run in the fourth and fifth innings. Former Aces infielder Ryan Wheeler reached on an error by Aces left fielder Mark Teahen and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Corey Dickerson for a 2-1 lead in the fourth. D.J. LeMahieu had a RBI single in the fifth.
The Aces tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth as Brad Snyder singled home Kila Ka'aihue. Ka'aihue was 2-for-4.
Anderson lasted just 5.1 innings for the Aces and allowed nine hits and five runs. Just two of the runs, though, were earned as the Aces committed three errors in the game.
Anderson was followed to the mound by relievers Matt Gorgen and Warner Madrigal. Gorgen allowed two hits and a run in 1.2 innings and Madrigal pitched a scoreless eighth inning while striking out two.
The Sky Sox took a 5-2 lead with a pair of runs in the sixth. Nolan Arenado and Matt McBride both had doubles in the sixth inning. Arenado was 3-for-3 with two runs and a solo home run in the seventh inning. Sky Sox catcher Matt McBride was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a double.
Rob Cahill earned the victory with 3.1 scoreless innings of relief. Cahill allowed three hits and struck out four. Chatwood went the first 4.2 innings and allowed eight hits and two runs.
The Aces will open at home on April 12.
