New season of "Ace of Cakes" faithfully recreated the 2,124-passenger Carnival Pride, Baltimore's first year-round cruise liner.
For as much money as Carnival Cruise Lines must have paid to have its 2,124-passenger ship, the "Carnival Pride," featured on last night’s “Ace of Cakes” premiere, it should have gotten more than a few replica balloons and waving flags.
Okay, the twisting waterslide and Baltimore skyline were very impressive, but celebrity cake master and Charm City Cakes proprietor Duff Goldman can sculpt just about anything out of cake. Why stop there?
Tiny passengers soaking in hot tubs would have been fun. So would tiny passengers stuffing their faces at long buffet lines. Or a raucous miniature launch party on the main deck. In fact, the whole cruise concept could have been over the top fantastic just by including a passing Disney ship fishing a crazy Carnival passenger out of the ocean.
That would have, forgive me, been the icing on the cake.

Perhaps, in the spirit of uber-reality Duff had all the little passengers below decks---see below:
Inspectors Board a Cruise Ship Hit by Illness - New York Times
The New York Times | December 3, 2002 |
Federal health inspectors boarded the cruise ship Carnival Fascination today to investigate the latest bout of sickness aboard cruise ships, which sickened more than 200 people during a weekend cruise from Miami. The Fascination, a Carnival Cruise Line ship, was the third liner in recent weeks to report large outbreaks of vomiting, diarrhea and other symptoms of Norwalk-like virus.
I am a cruise travel expert who has been working in the cruise industry for 25 years now. I am often quoted in major newspapers and magazines and noted in most cruise guidebooks.
I write about cruising all day, everyday, and therefore I have to keep up with the latest news on cruises. I am diligent about fact checking and copy editing.
I know most major cruise ship statistics by memory including their sizes, passenger capacities and layout. I know their alcohol polices and loyalty program requirements.
I watch cruise pricing on almost a daily basis, so I am quite adept at telling people where to find the best cruise bargains. I am currently working on an in-deptjh peiece on cruise ship cuisine to ascertain whether cruise ship food is really the same gourmet quality as the chefs each cruise line claims to be affiliated with. This is a daunting task requiring getting a gourmet onboard as many cruise ships as possible to test the theory.
