The 29th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony took place on April 10, 2014, at Barclays Center in New York City's Brooklyn borough. HBO will premiere an edited version of the show on May 31, 2014. In 2014, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees in 2014 were Kiss, Nirvana, Cat Stevens, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, the E Street Band, Brian Epstein and Andrew Loog Oldham. Here is what this artist had to say backstage during a brief press conference in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame press room.

ACE FREHLEY

Can you comment on Kiss not performing at this Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony?

It wasn’t my choice. I wanted to do it. The bottom line is we’re still brothers in rock and roll. And even though we haven’t seen each other in five, 10 or 15 years, it’s just like yesterday since we saw each other.

Do you feel the influence of Kiss from artists and other people who may be talking with you tonight?

I grew up with the Who and Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton and Led Zeppelin. Those are the guys who influenced me. I influenced guys like Nirvana and Pearl Jam and everybody else. I’m so happy to be here. It’s been 15 years. They could have inducted us 15 years ago, but finally did. I’m just stoked to be here, and I’m in great company.

Not too long ago, you and original Kiss drummer Peter Criss performed at an event for radio DJ/“That Metal Show” host Eddie Trunk. Is there a possibility that you two might be doing more collaborations, maybe doing a show of Kiss songs with just the two of you?

No. I love Peter to death. He’s my brother, but I’m doing my own thing. I have my own band. I’ve got a new album coming out June 24 [in 2014] called “Space Invader” on eOne Entertainment. I’ve always done my own thing when I’m away from Kiss.

What’s the one thing that you want people to remember most about Kiss?

I think that’s an obvious question. It’s the theatrics, it’s the makeup, the costumes, it’s the fantastic show that we created. And as it evolved over the years, it only got bigger. And I think that’s what we’re going to be remembered for. And the music, of course!

Some people from Rolling Stone magazine who were against Kiss being inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame got upset because Paul Stanley said in his speech that Kiss’ induction was the people’s choice, not Rolling Stone founder/editor-in-chief Jann Wenner’s choice. Can you comment on their reactions?

I don’t care about the politics. Paul seems to be a little bit aggravated that other people [current Kiss drummer Eric Singer and current Kiss guitarist Tommy Thayer] didn’t get inducted. The four original guys [in Kiss] are the ones who made it happen, and that’s why we’re being inducted. We’re the ones who influenced rock and roll and made rock and roll history.
