Prosecutors will be moving forward with the case against a 20-year-old man who shot an officer in the face after a judge on Thursday found probable cause against the suspect.
Mr. Frank Nance is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in the Jan. 11 shooting of Officer Reginald Robinson, according to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office.
The shooting happened near the intersection of Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard and Lee Street in southwest Atlanta.
Officer Robinson was dispatched to the area around 6:30 p.m. to investigate possible drug activity, the district attorney's spokeswoman Ms. Yvette Brown said.
He was questioning a man at the scene when the man decided to flee and Officer Robinson gave chase, Ms. Brown said.
Moments later, shots were fired and Officer Robinson was struck in the face, she said.
He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. The Officer survived his injuries and was later released from the hospital.
Thursday’s ruling by Magistrate Judge Ms. Karen Woodson means state attorneys can now take the case to a grand jury for indictment.
