According to Iowa City Code, Obama's a nuclear war criminal

I had Sean McClanahan of Iowa Firearms Coalition on The War on Guns radio show last week to talk about the college student who applied for a concealed carry permit only to be called by a representative of the University of Iowa Threat Assessment Team—it seems the sheriff is in the habit of informing on students to the administration.  In his reporting on that outrageous story, Sean also mentioned that Iowa City is a “nuclear weapons free zone.”

That struck me as typical and expected for the anti-defense crowd—at least it’s consistent, for a change—so I decided to look up the ordinance, originally enacted in 1985, in the Iowa City Code.

The people of the city find that the presence of nuclear weapons facilities within the city is in direct conflict with the maintenance of the community's public health, safety, morals, economic well being and general welfare.

I wonder what the city’s health, safety, economic well being and general welfare would be like if we unilaterally disarmed and placed ourselves at the mercy of the Russians and Chinese? Remember, the same crowd also doesn’t like guns, so a conventional defense would also be out of the question. And as for morals, I guess everyone who works in the military, those who work directly in nuclear defense support functions and those in other branches who puts their lives on the line when deployed, and who would prefer to have a deterrent to imporve their chances, is considered immoral by the solons of Iowa City.

As for the heart of the ordinance:

No person shall knowingly engage in work within the city, the purpose of which is the development, production, deployment, launching, maintenance or storage of nuclear weapons or components of nuclear weapons.

To make sure that’s enforced, they have posted signs.  Well, why not?  After all, they work so well in “gun-free zones.”

And then I came across a Reuters story on Obamacare from March 2010:

Taking his public relations blitz on the road as he seeks to overcome public doubts, Obama held a campaign-style rally at the University of Iowa Field House in Iowa City.

Now what is it that accompanies the president everywhere he goes?  That’s right, the “nuclear football” that has the launch codes. In other words,  the president and his retinue engaged in direct lawbreaking in Iowa City as he and they engaged in work to  maintain and store this key nuclear weapon component, without which deployment and  launch would be precluded.

Not only does that make it a conspiracy, but it’s a slap in the face to all those “home rule” proponents who use that as the reason to maintain local disarmament edicts (albeit they quickly abandon that position whenever they have a statewide or national initiative that serves their agenda.)

The choice before the city fathers is now clear: Obama must be prosecuted.  Otherwise, their ordinance will be exposed as nothing but a pathetic joke.

Oh, wait…
