Accor Hotels, the biggest hotel operator in Asia Pacific, announced major expansion in Indonesia on Tuesday.
During a press conference held in Jakarta on May 31st, Accor expressed its intent to build 21 new hotels throughout the Southeast Asian archipelago nation. The new hotels will add 4,526 new rooms under Accor’s Indonesian portfolio.
Currently, there are 40 Accor branded hotels and 13 in varying stages of construction. Tuesday’s announcement will bring 34 new hotels throughout Indonesia. Of the newly announced hotels, at least five will be located on the beloved tourist island of Bali.
"The Indonesian economy continues to grow and benefiting from this growth is increased business travel and tourism volumes,” said Michael Issenberg, Accor’s Asia Pacific Chairman and CEO, during today’s press conference. “Accor with its extensive and diversified Indonesian network is capitalising on our strong brand recognition and significant resources that we have in the country in leveraging our expansion."

Between now and the end of 2011, Accor is on pace to open seven additional hotels, bringing its year end total to 47 hotels in Indonesia. Those still left to open include: Pullman Jakarta Central Park, Mercure Banjarmasin, Mercure Bali Kuta Harvestland, Mercure Padang, ibis Bali Kuta, all seasons Bali Denpasar and, all seasons Yogyakarta. Beyond this and additional ten hotels of the committed hotels will open in 2012.
