Accomplishing spiritual learning and work while the body sleeps

Many people nowadays work one or more jobs, plus raise a family, and maintain a house and yard. Spiritual practices such as prayer, meditation, yoga, and sungazing seem like luxuries they can’t afford the time to do. Of course, if they start off the day with such practices, the day usually goes much better, mistakes and wasting of time and resources are avoided, and a person can better cope with stresses and fatigue. Nevertheless, it would be nice to have more time for learning spiritual practices and philosophy. If people do take the time, it’s often at the expense of sleep.

I have the habit of taking one of Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov's small Prosveta paperbacks with me when I know I will have time to enliven while waiting for something. Today, I read a few chapters of Looking into the Invisible, one of his best books, while my car was getting an oil change. I was delighted to find in these pages practical tips on how to acquire spiritual learning and do spiritual work at night while my body sleeps. I will share these in this article for readers who are desirous of more spirituality but are maxed out. Aivanhov said:

“Why shouldn't the soul and spirit have the chance to learn or do some useful work while we are asleep?... It is possible; in fact, it is highly desirable.’” However, Aivanhov stressed that to do so, to learn at the “universities of heaven” requires preparation, just as admission to a university on Earth requires preparation and passing an entrance exam. He said:

"This is why you must say to yourselves, every single day: “I must remember to prepare myself for sleep by not overloading my system with all kinds of cumbersome materials. Whether it is a question of the food I eat or of the thoughts and feelings I entertain, I am going to accept only the purest, most luminous elements...” If you start at once, and make continual effort to purify and enlighten your physical body, the day will come when, even when you give your body a few hours in which to rest, you yourself, in your spirit, will be able to continue, on the other side, to learn and work; you may even be allowed to help other human beings...

"When your soul manages to escape from your sleeping body, it is never idle; it moves about, contemplating immensity, communicating with heavenly spirits and gaining greater understanding of love, wisdom and truth. When it re-enters your body, it brings with it the memory of all the revelations it has received and attempts to pass them on to your brain... Of course, this cannot happen unless you have a high ideal and a great love for the sublime realities.

"Instead of trying to devour all the books that you can find in libraries, you must ask the entities of wisdom to enroll you in their school and learn while you are asleep... It is important to understand to what extent sleep can be something sacred when you go to sleep with the intention of learning in the world above; this is where you receive true initiation... Never forget to go to sleep with the magnificent goal in mind of doing some work on the invisible plane, for it is this thought that makes everything possible. Of course,... if your day has been spent in a state of agitation, emotion and passion, it is no use expecting to do any great work at night.

"When you have a problem or question that worries you, you can try to find the solution during your sleep by writing it down on a piece of paper and putting the paper under your pillow... You will certainly get an answer in the form of a sensation or a thought that crosses your mind when you wake up... Is there something you really want to achieve? A weakness you want to overcome or a quality you want to acquire? Meditate at length and then go to sleep with this desire in mind and it will continue to work while you are asleep.

"There are so many other circumstances in which you can use your sleep to get some work done... All those hours that you are obliged to spend sleeping, instead of being wasted, can be used to do work that you have no time to do during the day."

Saying prayers for protection is advisable before going to sleep. Aivanhov warns against trying to have out-of-body experiences and astral traveling when you're not ready for it. He says that it can be extremely dangerous if you first don't purify yourself and strengthen your aura so as to be invulnerable against attacks from astral entities. If you are attacked, either escape to the physical body and wake up, or take refuge in your spirit.

Reading Looking into the Invisible is good for those who wish to do spiritual work at night, but it will be far better to take a course that uses it as a textbook. The Hearts Center Community's Meru University will be having such a course from November 13 through December 11, 2011. The title of the course is The Divine Science of Co-Creation through Pure Vision. It is sponsored by the Elohim Cyclopea and Virginia and will be taught by the messenger David C. Lewis. According to the website, this course will provide new understanding of the divine science of pure vision and increase your capacity to co-create with Elohim at higher levels, so that your lives are fulfilled, prosperous, joyous and blessed.  The Elohim, Cyclopea and Virginia will share a meditation to accelerate your pure vision through the emerald-crystal ray.  As you continue using this short exercise throughout the course you can progressively feel an increase in the vibratory rate of the spinning of the emerald crystal, and a certain raising of consciousness. You will realize you are fully capable of using the resources of heaven to conceive of anything and everything as already perfect, whole and glorious. Experience the re-empowering of your third eye with the light of Elohim.  Learn the secrets of how the Silent Watchers focus the All-Seeing Eye to hold galaxies, solar systems and their evolutions in a state of divine beingness.

Besides the techniques of doing spiritual work at night while the body sleeps, this course will examine the teachings of Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov on Intuition, Clairvoyance and Dreams from Looking into the Invisible.  Also, it will examine excerpts from Dr. Robert-Michael Kaplan’s book The Power Behind Your Eyes and Roberto Kaplan’s book Conscious Vision.  This course offers the essentials ofhow to realize your true nature through your Higher Self with the possibility of even improving your physical vision as you clear blocks to your own inner sight. A highlight of this course will be a darshan with Beloved Cyclopea and Virginia during which students can ask questions of the Elohim through the messenger.
