This Thursday evening the Broward Center for The Performing Arts is hosting a presentation by bestselling author, physician, and internationally acclaimed holistic wellness celebrity Deepak Chopra. Those who are interested in mind-body health, spirituality, and personal well-being can come and learn from the doctor himself about how Chopra's work is changing the way the world views physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social wellness.
Deepak Chopra, the Indian-born medical doctor, is acknowledged as one of the world's greatest leaders in the field of mind-body medicine. He is a prolific author with more than 36 books (such as How To Know God, The Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success, What Are You Hungry For?, Perfect Health, The Ultimate Happiness Prescription, Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, God: A Story of Revelation, Jesus, Buddha, Quantum Healing) and over 100 audio, video and CD-ROM titles, translated into 35 languages with over 20 million copies sold worldwide. Chopra has appeared on numerous TV shows and even had cameos in Hollywood feature films. He continues to help inform our society's understanding of the meaning of health and happiness, and through his creation of The Chopra Center for Well Being, Chopra has promoted his healing approach of using the integration of the best of Western medicine with natural, alternative, and holistic healing traditions. Chopra has popularized wisdom about the crucial connection between body, mind, spirit, and healing through his mission of "bridging the technological miracles of the West with the wisdom of the East."
While Chopra has numerous fans, he also has some critics, both from the conventional medicine and materialistic science realms and from the alternative and "new age" fields. Chopra and some other interviewees featured in the film Thrive: What on Earth Will It Take? (released in November 2011) wrote a letter distancing themselves from the film due to parts of the content of the film that focused on exposing evidence of conspiratorial factions manipulating human civilization. Since Chopra is a celebrity who represents a politically correct version of alternative medicine for the general public, it is not surprising that he feels uncomfortable being associated with a project that openly exposes the power structure that has deliberately disempowered the public and steered them away from natural healing. Those who do expose conspiracies are typically ostracized by the corporate media and institutions that depend upon funding from government or corporate sources.
Thus, when Deepak Chopra speaks as a VIP at a venue which is supported financially by Bank of America and other corporate sponsors, it is unlikely that he will discuss the conspiratorial forces in the banking, industrial, and health care fields that have affected the way health care and medical education are provided in America. He is more likely to focus on the scientific exploration of mind-body medicine and practical guidance for attendees to reduce stress and create more balance and happiness in their lives. If those are subjects that you would like to learn more about then this will be a great opportunity to hear Dr. Chopra speak in person.
