An Edgewater woman was killed in a traffic accident west of Daytona Beach Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. 59-year old Kathy Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene by the Medical Examiner, according to FHP spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes. Troopers say Ms. Hayes had been standing in front of her car, after it had become disabled in the right westbound lane of U.S. 92 at Clark Bay Road around 10 a.m. The FHP says another oncoming westbound driver “…did not slow or stop…” for the disabled car, striking the rear of the disabled vehicle, which then struck Ms. Hayes. The driver of the oncoming car, a 33-year old woman from Ormond Beach, was treated for minor injuries at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. Troopers say charges are pending in the case, which remains under investigation.
