The spectacular, Jack Nicklaus-designed Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain in Tucson is the home of the 2013 Accenture Match Play Championship, which is underway this week. 64 of the world's top golfers will battle it out, match-play style, mano-a-mano, for an $8 million purse, with $1.4 million going to the winner. The 5-day tournament is hosted by the Tucson Conquistadores, who raise money for regional and local charities; the First Tee program will also benefit.
Scheduled to play are the top 4 golfers in the world, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods(fresh from his round with President Obama), Luke Donald and last week's AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am champion Brandt Snedeker, plus Bubba Watson, Oosthuizen, Rose, Scott, Westwood, Dufner, Poulter, Bradley, Stricker and just about every one of the top players on the planet.
The Accenture Match Play Championship will once again feature "Follow the Leaders," a program that allows fans to follow the players down each fairway until the 2013 champion is decided. All Sunday ticket holders are invited to "Follow the Leaders."
Nicklaus designed the 27 holes at Ritz Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain around a batallion of gigantic saguaro cacti in elevations from 2,300 to 3,200 feet, within view of the surrounding Tortolita Mountain Range.
