ACC tournament schedule 2013: Miami, Duke in line for top seeds

The 2013 ACC tournament schedule is set as the teams continue to play for the imminent seeding process. The ACC tournament begins next Thursday (March 14), with most of the bracket pairings still undecided. In the updated ACC standings from Wednesday (March 6), it is clear that the Miami Hurricanes have already clinched the No. 1 seed through the established tiebreakers.

NCAA Tournament Seeding Predictions

Miami is currently 14-2 and just needs to win either on March 6 against Georgia Tech or on March 9 against Clemson to win the regular season ACC title outright. Two losses and a Duke win over North Carolina on March 9 and the two schools would finish the season tied. Miami would still win the tiebreaker for the postseason, though, because they beat a Virginia team that Duke lost to.

After the first two schools, things are much closer, as 11-5 North Carolina, 10-6 North Carolina state, and 10-6 Virginia are all vying for the third or fourth seed. The top four seeds get byes through the first round of the 2013 ACC tournament schedule, giving them a distinct advantage when it comes to the final eight.

This year, the conference tournament is more important than ever, because between Duke and Miami, one of those two schools could be in line for a No. 1 seed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Winning three straight games to finish off the conference tournament would certainly be a big boost, but there are several cusp teams like Maryland that are hoping for an upset.

The official seeding for the tournament will be determined when the final regular season games take place on Saturday (March 9).
