The first round of college basketball’s Battle of the Blues is complete as the #10 Duke Blue Devils (20-4, 7-2) beat the #5 North Carolina Tar Heels (20-4, 7-2) at the buzzer as Austin River’s three-pointer completed an 85-84 thriller played at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Wednesday night.
The win by the Duke men’s team completes the sweep for the Blue Devils basketball programs over their cross-Triangle rivals.
Earlier in the week, the fifth-ranked Duke women (19-3, 10-0) handed the twenty-third ranked Tar Heels (17-6, 7-3) a 96-56 drubbing at Cameron Indoor Stadium in front of a home crowd of over 8500.
The final round of the Battle of the Blues takes place on the final dates of the ACC schedule for all teams as the Blue Devils women travel to face UNC at Carmichael Arena on Feb. 26 while the Duke men host the Tar Heels at Cameron on Mar. 3.
