In the last few weeks, more than a dozen taxi drivers and passengers have been murdered in the resort city of Acapulco.
On Friday morning, gunmen killed a driver outside a taxi dispatch center, and sped away, but not before tossing-out several trash bags filled with the dismembered remains of another man.
Two days earlier, another driver was shot to death outside another dispatch center.
Last month, five drivers were found murdered in on near their taxis in one day.
Cartels have been recruiting taxi drivers for years to work as lookouts, and to deliver small amounts of drugs around town. Consequently, they are often targeted by rival cartels.
A 2008 survey reported that 120 of the 200 taxi drivers in the city of Chetumal, Mexcio, reported to have been threatened with violence against their families if they refused to deliver drugs on behalf of the local cartel.
