When looking for diet plans at any local grocery store, patrons are sure to find many products which boast the super-food ingredient Acai berries. Acai berries are fairly new to the American diet market, but do they hold the key to fast and easy weight loss?
Acai berries are a bluish purple berry fruit grown in Central and South America. These sweet treats are touted to be full of antioxidants which help human bodies to burn fat and slow the aging process. There are ongoing studies being done to find out if acai really is a fat fighting super-food. So, should you bite the bullet and buy diet products full of these berries?
Scientific studies have shown that acai berries are packed with certain powerful anti-oxidants called Anthocyanins and flavanoids. Anthocyanins help the human body in several different ways including: altering the development of hormone-dependent disease symptoms, enzyme inhibition, immune system regulation, anti-inflammatory activities, and strengthening the membrane of some cells (Journal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology, 2004). But do acai berries help with weight loss?
Actually, acai berries are far from being proven to be a weight loss helper. Many scientific studies are being done to try and prove that these juicy wonders help to shed pounds, but none have conclusive evidence that they help.
The moral here is when you are looking in the grocery store for a product to help lose those stubborn ten pounds stuck to your tummy or your thighs, don’t reach for the acai berries. Although they are a very healthful snack, they will not help burn fat any faster than a brisk walk at the park will.
