Academy Awards to celebrate of the life & career of screen legend Sophia Loren

On Wednesday, May 4, 2011, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences will be celebrating the life and career of screen legend Sophia Loren. This gala will include clips from her films, comments from her friends and conclude with a conversation on stage with Sophia Loren.

Sophia Loren has been an Icon of style and grace and is adored by film fans around the world. In 1961, Loren received an Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading role for the film Two Women, making her the first actress to win an Academy Award for a non-speaking performance. But Hollywood soon had Loren speaking English as she starred with Hollywood legends Cary Grant, Charlton Heston and Gregory Peck.  My favorite classic film starring Loren is Houseboat.

Sophia was bestowed an Honorary Academy Award in 1991 for her contributions to world cinema and was declared "one of the world cinema's treasures." Sophia has continued to act, just recently starring in the film Nine in 2009.
