Academy Awards in the classroom (Photos)

The Oscars will be presented on ABC February 24, 2013 and it is anybody’s guess who will win what. The historical Lincoln has garnered 12 nominations and has helped classroom teachers stir up excitement for U. S. history and biographies.

French teachers can capitalize on the Academy Awards by downloading a free lesson from TeachersPayTeachers that highlights French-themed films nominated in 2012. Literature teachers will find a number of theatrical resources for Shakespeare, Greek tragedies and Civil Rights.

If you’re more interested in participating in a show, consider a January 26, 2013 fund raiser by the Chesapeake Reading Council. Writing Mysteries Can Be Murder is an audience interactive dinner theater featuring a couple of local authors, Christy Barritt and Ruth Ford, with a twist.

During the course of the evening, someone will die and it is up to the audience to join with characters from Barritt’s books, to collar the right suspect. Check out the Reading Council’s webpage for detail and ticket information.
