2014 Academy Awards recap

86th Academy Awards
86th Academy Awards

The 86th Academy Awards took place last night and had its highest ratings in 10 years. Part of that is probably due to Ellen DeGeneres who made an excellent host, doing things like ordering pizza for celebrities in the audience and even taking a “selfie” with about 10 of them. That selfie was so popular that it caused the Twitter website to crash.

The awards may have also had high ratings due to so many movie fans hoping that Leonardo DiCaprio would finally win after so many nominations and snubs in the past from the Academy. He has an incredible body of work and no Oscars to show for it yet. However, he lost again.

12 Years a Slave was the big winner as it won for best picture among other awards. Gravity won the most for the night, but mainly in the technical fields such as visual effects.
