***Update 3:00 p.m.

A crowd has begun to grow outside the apartment of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. Word came Sunday afternoon that the Oscar-winning actor was found dead in his West Villiage condo. The luxury building called Pickwick House located at 35 Bethune Street boast homes ranging from one to three million dollars. Some reports says Hoffman’s assistant found his body along with drug paraphernalia. Other reports merely speculate that he was found in the bathroom of an apparent drug overdose. Investigators with the New York Police City Department are on the scene. Hoffman was 46. Hoffman was married to film and television costume designer Mimi O’Donnell. Together they had three children, two daughters Tallulah and Willa and a son Cooper Alexander.

Hollywood reacts to news of Hoffman’s passing on Twitter. “Breaking Bad” actress Betsy Brandt writes:

I am so heartbroken over the loss of Philip Seymour Hoffman. He will be missed.

Actress Gabourey Sidibe Tweeted,

My heart goes out to Philip Seymour Hoffman, his family and friends. Such a sad end to such a talented man. I'm thankful for his art. RIP

New York City’s newly installed mayor, Bill de Blasio Tweeted,

Saddened by Philip Seymour Hoffman's tragic and untimely passing. Today New York mourns the loss of one of stage and screen's greats.

Many more celebs and fans alike will likely take to Twitter to express their grief and shock at Hoffman’s unexpected passing.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment. I am working to independently confirm. Hoffman was known for both his stage and film work. His list of credits include the most recent “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” ”The Ides of March” and “Capote” in which he played the title character and won an Oscar for his performance. The now defunct NBC legal procedural “Law & Order” is listed as one of Hoffman’s first professional acting credits. He appeared during the show’s first season. IMDB indicates that Hoffman had completed work on “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1” and currently filming the follow up film part 2.
