AC Milan stunned by FC Barcelona in UEFA Champions League

Italian club team AC Milan was stunned by Spaniard club team FC Barcelona on Tuesday afternoon in the UEFA Champions league round of 16. Milan was routed in Barcelona 4-0 and is now eliminated from the most prestigious club tournament of Europe.

ESPN Deportes reported a stats page on the classic match between the two giants. Barcelona controlled the game with shots and ball control as they routed the Italian team to qualify for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The goals were scored by Argentine forward and already Barcelona legend Lionel Messi (5th and 39th minute), forward David Villa (55th minute), and defender Jordi Alba (90th minute).

Barcelona had lost the first leg in Italy a week ago by two goals. It was speculated that the Spaniard club team was going to have problems against a tight Italian club squad, but the results proved otherwise.

The game was tied after Messi scored the second goal. When the third came, by Villa, the Barcelona squad was in the lead in the aggregate count.

The Italian club team came out to defend an overwhelming attack by the Spaniards. Once Milan was down with the third goal made by Villa, they had made some switches to go on attack mode.

All Milan needed was a goal to tie in aggregate, but the away goal rule would have given the Italian club team the advantage.

Milan did not capitalized on their attack scheme as the Barca squad got away on a counter attack involving Messi, Alexi Sanchez, and Jordi Alba.

The game was sealed with the fourth goal. AC Milan goes home, and Barcelona keeps playing to try to win the Champions League.
