Foodies will agree that there’s nothing like dinner out on the town—the ambience, the décor, and of course the food all play a part in the experience. At the same time, there’s nothing like enjoying a home cooked meal that gets the personal touch. This week, both worlds merge at Openhouse Gallery’s three-day pop-up dinner series, ABODE: home. style. food.
From Thursday February 28th through Sunday March 2nd, Openhouse Gallery's event space, The Old Bowery Station—a beautiful old subway station—will be the backdrop for ABODE, an intimate pop-up restaurant where you will be treated to the best in professional and homestyle cooking served up by ABC’s The Taste contestants, Gregg Drusinsky and Sarah Ashley Schiear.
With a résumé that includes working with Mario Batali (Casa Mono), Jean Georges Vongerichten (Jean Geroges) and Eric Ripert (Le Bernardin), Mr. Drusinsky brings with him a lot of skills and training in creating enticing dishes. As a self-taught cook who loves to entertain, Ms. Schiear will be offering her take on cooking as “an inspirational experience to be shared and enjoyed.”
ABODE’s five-course meal ($85 per person) is served with complimentary pairings, and it begins with fluke poke featuring avocado, scallions, and ginger followed by a roasted shiitake salad topped with smoked eel. Before diving into the main course—cumin lamb served with cavatelli pasta—you will have a chance to enjoy curry lobster bisque complemented by cucumber noodles, fried rice, and chiles. The enticing meal is capped off with passion fruit panna cotta served with five-spiced cashew brittle and coconut cream.
Tickets are now available for seatings at 7 PM and 9:15 PM. Seating is limited.
