If you have not been to the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park in a while, then maybe is now the time to revisit this cultural treasure that has some of the best in classical, contemporary, and original theatrical productions. The current venue Abigail 1702 is currently running from now until February 17, 2013. This is a original story by Roberto Aquirre-Sacasa, and under direction of Blake Robinson.
It is a amazing and intense tale beginning where the story the Crucible left off. It is 10 years after the Salem Witch trials. The one question that remains is what ever happened to the character of the Abigail Williams and the others. Also can once find peace, love, when ones actions have caused so much tragedy, pain and hurt in others. Shall that person ever be worthy of love, redemption, and hope. The transgressions that are committed against others do they condemn us to loneliness, bitterness, tragedy, and death. Can one make repentance for are past crimes and will dedication to one’s faith, or acts of kindness offer any hope? Abigail had many violations to appease for she had a relationship with a married man, she accused many falsely in Salem of witchcraft resulting in their death, or heartache. Also some say she danced with the devil and made a deal with him. However Abigail was not the only one to condemn others falsely in Salem, many judges, and ministers, and towns people in mob mentality do so too.
Stephanie Fieger was outstanding in her role as Abigail Williams/Ruth Meadow she carried out the repentant Ruth meadow very passionately and sternly. Bravo! This performance represents Stephanie’s debut at the Cincinnati Playhouse. She also has a long list of credits before this including roles in Common Pursuit at Roundtree Theatre, Macbeth at the Delacorte Theatre/The Public Theatre, and The Proposal at Infinite Theatre.
Nicholas Carriere as John Brown is highly convincing and driven in his role as sailor with a sickness and a dark past. He seeks Abigail out first to aid him, then as someone to share happiness and love with. This also represents Nicholas’s Cincinnati Playhouse debut. However most recently he performed Coriolanus at Commonwealth Shakespeare Company on Boston Commons. He has also been seen in Disney’s Lion King, and reoccurring role on Guiding Light.
Ross Bicknell was brilliant in his various roles including Reverend Parris. He
carried out them passionately. He has been in Broadway roles of Noises off,
The Iceman Cometh, and Stand up Tragedy. He also has had roles in movies
and television. Some include Fantasy Island, Wonder Woman, WKRP in Cincinnati and 30 Rock.
