A 14-year-old girl was found Wednesday, some 34 hours after she was abducted from her family’s Clayton County home by masked gunmen during a home invasion.
Ayvani Hope Perez had been found safe at a location in Conyers and has been reunited with her family, according to Clayton County police.
Two people have been taken into federal custody, police spokeswoman Officer Danielle Rosa said. But investigators are looking at some other suspects.
Mr. Wildrego Jackson, 29, of Atlanta, was being held on a kidnapping conspiracy charge and 40-year-old Mexican national, Mr. Juan Alberto Contreras-Rodriguez, was being held on immigration-related charges, Officer Rosa said.
Mr. Jackson, 29, was released from state prison in 2007 after serving time for several drug-related convictions, according to state Department of Corrections records. He was released from the Fulton County Jail on July 19 after being arrested on numerous charges including aggravated stalking and theft-by-receiving.
Ayvani was abducted Monday by two men who broke into the family’s Ellenwood home through a back door. They demanded money and jewelry, but when they didn’t receive any, they took the teen, police said.
More than 150 officers with local, state and federal agencies were involved in the search for the teen and her abductors.
The teen had been held in the metro area during the time she was missing, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Rick Maxwell, assistant special agent in charge with the FBI’s Atlanta office, said the two suspects in custody are not the two who allegedly abducted the girl, the paper reported.
“We believe those two suspects in the drawings are still at large,” Maxwell said at a Wednesday afternoon press conference.
Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of the two suspects is asked to call the same tip line (770)477-3513.
