If you're a faithful reader of Angry Asian Man or know someone who is, you might have heard the rumor that "America's Best Dance Crew" is banning Asian and Asian Americans from future competitions. This comes from something apparently posted on Facebook and on emails. Angry Asian Man received several emails and he finally posted a commentary on 22 March 2010.
Here's the so-called announcement that was being passed around and finally was posted on the Angry Asian Man's Web site:
Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew has reported that it will no longer be accepting groups of dancers made up of entirely Asian members. The hour-long episode series, based on crews from all over the country, competing against each other, has stayed popular since its first season, premiering in 2008, but it may find problems in the near future. The show hasn't entirely excluded the Asian-American community from crews, but there has been a drastic change, limiting crews to a maximum of two Asian members per group.
Although current Judges, JC Chasez, Lil Mama, and Omarion have not shown approval for the new rule, Jackson has been reported saying, "The crews from the past four seasons have been dominated by prominently Asian members, leading to their win, with exception to the Season 4 winners, We Are Heroes. Although we are happy for the Jabbawockeez, Super Cr3w, and Quest Crew, we think it's only right to give other races a fighting chance within the show." Former competitors Kaba Modern and Supreme Soul are completely outraged by this, but the decision is final. No one knows exactly how Season 6 will work, but things will definitely be interesting.
I always wondered about the Shakespeare play, "Much Ado About Nothing." Is there anyone so really sick and twisted that they'd start rumors just to make other people miserable like Don John? The answer in real life, and in the Internet age is: yes. If you haven't seen this play lately, rent the 1993 movie with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson (with Keanu Reeves as Don John) or check out the excellent production at A Noise Within in Glendale. There are apparently a lot of haters in this world like Don John and the person who started the rumor is one of them.
MTV didn't think the rumor was worthy of issuing an official statement. Mainly, they just laughed when I asked. Why? Because a large segment of the audience members and the actual crew are Asian Americans. Someone must really hate Poreotix (above in photo by Mark Davis) or just hate life. Leave the haters behind and let's go dancing!

omg!! i do not agree with them doing that!! ASIAN can DANCE, we got talent, so i honestly think they shouldn't bann asian crew. ahhhhhhh........... D: i don't like this rule! :[
no not at all!!! :[
i do not agree with this. who do they think brings the heat. quite frankly i think that because randy jackson can't have one of his black crews win it all he has to take it out on the people who are dominating. is it that big of a deal that black people can't dance anymore. i mean i saw it coming. all they do is smoke pot and sit on their asses anymore. you can go ahead and say i'm racist but if you call me a racist then you cant overlook randy jackson. i used to like him and the show but screw him and the show at this point.
Asians deserve the same rights as any other dance group out there! It's not the Asians' faults that they can dance, but if you look deep into it, Asians work as hard as any crew. Randy needs to realize that, everyone works hard. It's just that Asians' work harder for their dreams. & if he wants his race to win, (no offense, not being racist) he should tell them to STEP IT UP!
