Diane Sawyer, who has co-anchored “Good Morning America” and anchored “ABC World News Tonight,” is rumored to be retiring after 25 years in the news business, The New York Daily News reported on Monday, Jan. 28, and updated on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
A source said, “She’s [Diane Sawyer] has discussed with a few close friends and some people at ABC that she is seriously considering retiring. She said she’ll be ready to hang it up not long down the road. She loves work and what she does and has endless energy, but she’s overwhelmed with personal problems and she is thinking about leaving to take care of her family. No one wants to see her going through a rough time. She’s the nicest woman. If it’s a co-worker’s birthday, she’ll throw a party. Anything to show everyone a good time."
Insiders say that Sawyer, 67, is dealing with a “private matter,” as well as helping her mother battle an illness. A source says there is “no diagnosis” yet for Diane’s mother, whom Sawyer has been caring for on weekends.
A representative for ABC News denies that Diane Sawyer has any plans to retire in 2013.
