ABC scrapes bottom of the ‘Dancing With the Stars’ barrel (Photos)

With 15 seasons of “Dancing With the Stars” under its belt, is ABC running out of stars to feature in the competition? Looking at the season 16 lineup that was announced on “Good Morning America” on Feb. 26, one can’t help but wonder if some of the sparkle has gone out of the mirror ball trophy since so many of the bigger name celebrities are turning down the chance to compete, and we have names on the roster than many of us have never heard of.

The list of celebrities in the past who have been invited to compete on DWTS include cyclist Lance Armstrong, celebrity bad girl Lindsay Lohan, rocker Tommy Lee, and actress Jamie Lee Curtis -- yet all have declined. There are certainly some big names who have chosen not to compete, but there are even some who could have been considered has-beens who were invited and also declined. What does that say for ABC?

With so many stars choosing not to hitch their wagon to “Dancing With the Stars”, it’s no wonder that we’re seeing the likes of Andy Dick and Zendaya Coleman on the cast -- so-called celebrities who many have never heard of.

Long-time fan, Tiffany from Illinois:

Incredibly disappointed in the DWTS cast for Season 16! Never even heard of Zendaya. Will watch for Ingo and Kellie though.

Similar comments are being tossed about on Facebook and Twitter from die-hard DWTS fans.

As an actor, Andy Dick doesn’t have a thing on IMDb that is instantly recognizable, so what is it that gives him star status? Zendaya Coleman’s claim to fame is a starring role in “Shake It Up”, a Disney Channel series where the 16-year-old is cast as a dancer. Sure she’s cute and of course she can dance, but is ABC so desperate as to solicit kids to keep the show running?

It’s had a good run for 15 seasons, but has “Dancing With the Stars” run itself into the ground?
