ABC's 'Lost' recap: life, death, Sayid, and Claire

Now, we have even more questions.

The tangled web that is "Lost" is only getting even trickier. Last week, we were introduced to a parallel universe -- where everyone seemingly was never on the island. However, there was one thing that stood out: Desmond was there. This time around, we had another anomaly in the presence of Ethan at the hospital.

It may be the end of the season before this mystery is resolved; after all, much of the focus for this episode was on a single character instead: Kate. We saw her escape in the same taxi as Claire, and after initially threatening her with a gun and leaving her with nothing she went back to help the pregnant girl. (No telling how she found her so fast.)

It was weird seeing how similar the "Kate and Claire in real life" story is to "Kate and Claire on the island." Kate ended up being there to help baby Aaron, even though he wasn't even born yet in the alternate universe. I'm still not exactly sure where this Kate story is heading, since she is really in the same place now that she was at the start of the episode -- that is, on the run from the law.

Back on the island, things were much more eventful this week. Sayid, after miraculously coming back to life, nearly was killed again by Rogan (a.k.a. the mysterious Japanese man) and his followers in a series of gruesome ways. Why? There is some sort of "darkness" within him that is starting to spread, something similar to what happened to Claire. (See the connection the writers are forcing upon us?) Their attempts to knock off the Iraqi torturer unsuccessful, as Jack ultimately figured out the truth. Unfortunately, we still don't know whose side exactly these people are on (and really how they ended up where they are -- though it may be possible they crashed there, as well).

Sawyer, meanwhile, apparently decided he had enough of being led around blindly by this group of unknowns and decided to leave for the village -- and the place he spent so much time with Juliet before her death. Sawyer's story is becoming increasingly tragic, and we saw a nice moment between him and Kate when he threw the engagement ring he planned to hand over to Juliet in the ocean. It doesn't really seem like Sawyer can have a happy ending in all of this now; but, strange things have been known to happen on this show. I don't see another Kate / Sawyer romance happening, and he has yet again alienated himself from the group.

All in all, Tuesday night's episode was not exactly full of revelations, even if he did learn a little more about the temple. Undoubtedly the biggest shocker came at the end, when Jin (off searching for Sun) ended up stumbling upon Claire in the jungle. How did she get away from Jacob's cabin? Maybe somehow following his death the darkness started to overwhelm her.

Thought that some of the dialogue with Jack and the people at the Temple was stilted and forced, wasn't as natural for the actors and plot worthy as in seasons past.

Lots of paralells between Claire & Danielle. Both were pregnant when they came to the island, had a child, yet "lost" the child somehow. Both have been characterized as crazy and set traps. Jin had a run-in with young Danielle & now with Claire. Hmmmm. . .
