Creator Lizzy Weiss broke the news on Twitter Thursday (Oct. 3), writing, "Here it is! Please welcome @RjMitte, otherwise known as Flynn on #breakingbad to #switchedatbirth. We are thrilled to have him."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 21-year-old actor will play Campbell, a pre-med college student paralyzed by a snowboarding accident who works at the free clinic alongside Daphne (Katie Leclerc). Weiss later descibed the character in a press release as "charismatic, funny, and a bit of a ladies' man."
"I love 'Switched at Birth,' it's super exciting to work with such an awesome cast," Mitte said in a statement.
Last season concluded with Daphne turning herself in for blackmailing a politician while working at her dad's State Senate office. Weiss tweeted out a photo last month that implied that the character would be spending some time in juvie during the upcoming 20-episode third season, which hints that she may find herself working at the clinic as part of a community service sentence.
Mitte played Walter "Flynn" White Jr. for all five seasons on AMC's "Breaking Bad," which ended its run on Sept. 29. The show's series finale drew a record-setting 10.3 million viewers. His other TV credits include "Vegas" and "Hannah Montana."
"Switched at Birth" returns to ABC Family for Season 3 in January 2014.
