Abbey Road on the River Beatles fest to kick off with free concert

Abbey Road on the River will kick off its second festival year in the Nation's Capital with a free concert at 5 p.m. Sept. 1. The show will take place at the site of The Awakening, a 70-foot statue on the banks of the Potomac River at National Harbor. 

Those performing will be Itchycoo Park from Scotland, Old Brown Shoe from the Netherlands, the Newbees from Cincinnati and All You Need is Love from Canada. At 9:30 p.m., All You Need is Love, the Newbees and special guest James Paul Lynch from the band BritBeat will perform an excerpt from the Grammy-award winning soundtrack album from the Beatles' "LOVE" show. A full re-enactment of the "LOVE" show, "The LOVE Album Live Concert" presented by Gretsch Guitars, will take place at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 3 and 1:45 p.m. Sept. 4 as part of the festival. 
 
Abbey Road on the River returns to the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center Sept. 1-5. More than 50 bands from around the world will be featured, along with performances from D.C.'s Voce Chamber Singers, the Washington Saxophone Quartet and soprano Alessandra Marc.

The festival will feature more than 15 complete album concerts with live performances of the Beatles' albums "A Hard Day's Night," Rubber Soul," "Please Please Me," "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," "Abbey Road," "Help!," "Revolver," and "Magical Mystery Tour," plus Paul McCartney and Wings' "Band "On The Run" and "Wings Over America," and the Who's "Tommy."
 
International bands scheduled to perform include All You Need Is Love from Canada, Itchycoo Park from Scotland, the Jukebox from Puerto Rico, Norwegian Beatles from Norway, Old Brown Shoe from The Netherlands, Plastic Quinny Band from England, and The Repeatles from Sweden. Regional bands include Apple Core and A+ Dropouts from Washington, D.C.; The Apple Scruffs from Baltimore, Md.; Frankie-Rae from Hagarstown, Md.; Glass Onion from Fredericksburg, Va.; Good Fellas and the English Channel from Richmond, Va. and The Bristols from Baltimore, Md.
