It was a beautiful afternoon for the announcement of the project launch which is set to refurbish old vacant homes, buildings and even construct homes on vacant lots not only in Tampa but also in other cities with the joined forces of community volunteers, technicians, contractors, sponsors, Sears Home Services and the nonprofit Rebuilding Together organization. Although the launch took place yesterday, the renovation of the Tampa church started in January which included an irrigation system, new ramp, garden plots, and painted murals on the exterior windows for the new Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association Community Center.

Former Extreme Makeover Home Edition star and DIY Network TV personality Ty Pennington joined volunteers to assist in painting, gardening, and of course one of his favorites demolition. In this case, the demolition was minor - knocking a door down.

Volunteers, contractors and technicians are working continuously to have the center ready by May. The center will teach children computer skills, encourage healthy eating habits, provide other learning opportunities and other resources for adults too. A few kids stopped by the center after school to play on the playground. One stated he loves the playground and can't wait for the center to be completed.

Sears Home Services mission is to restore homes and buildings in the communities in which their nearly 8,000 technicians, project consultants and contractors live and serve and along with the nonprofit Rebuilding Together organization which helps identify homes and community projects in need of assistance.
