Washington, D.C. --- An infant girl was discovered wrapped in a blanket in front of a residence in the 3000 block of Channing Street NE around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
A resident on the street said he found the baby girl completely naked wrapped in a towel on the concrete step of a sidewalk leading to a neighbor's porch. The temperature was about 25 degrees.
When EMS personnel arrived, they found the girl stiff, cold and in cardiac arrest. She was taken to Children's Hospital still in cardiac arrest. Police later confirmed that the girl was pronounced dead around 2:21 a.m. Police have only identified the girl as an "unidentified black female infant" about a week old.
Police say the cause of death is unknown at this time and the investigation is continuing. The department's Special Victims Unit is working this case.
